LIKE EVERY NIGHT

Like every night, he watched Khushi stutter back home in strapping stilettos, herself wrapped in an expensive AR gown.

Like every night, he watched the ever faithful Hari Prakash give a brotherly hand to Khushi, smilingly removing her heels and leading her to the room. The sadness on Hari’s face always rolled down like a hot tear, but Hari knew better than to speak.

Like every night, he watched Khushi walk into their bedroom, her hand fiddling for her phone in her clutch as she handed it to him with faithfulness. A soft smile lit on her face as she would gently explain how she had bagged another deal for him… in private.

Like every night, he watched Khushi pour herself a glass of champagne in his absence, she knew that alcohol wasn’t a great drink for one with diabetes.

Like every night, he watched Khushi show marked indifference to the stars and idols, simply stripping herself to her underwear as she slipped into their bed.

Like every night, he watched Khushi trace her skin softly over the barely there imprints of a man’s fingers on her arms or waist, the ones she believed she had effortlessly hidden from him.

Like every night, he watched Khushi come undone in his arms, yet cry herself to sleep.

Like every night, he watched Khushi fall asleep, the streaks of mascara trailing down her cheek which she thought he never noticed in the darkness she was now accustomed to.

Arnav Singh Raizada closed his eyes in regret… like every night.
